Most UAE businesses hire too late and then hire the wrong shape of help.
Position as at August 2026
Here is the trigger, and the choice that follows it.
Not revenue. Not headcount.
You need professional help at the point where you can no longer answer these three questions from memory.
What did I make last month?
Who owes me money, and how old is it?
What do I owe, and when is it due?
If you cannot answer all three today, your books are not doing their job, and this is already costing you.
Corporate Tax computes from your accounting income. Since June 2023 the quality of your bookkeeping has a direct tax consequence.
Before that, informal books cost you management information. Now they cost you a defensible tax position, and a federal authority can ask about it.
That moved the point at which professional help pays for itself considerably earlier.
In-house works when you have enough volume to keep someone genuinely busy, you need daily presence for invoicing and payments, and you have someone who can supervise them.
A firm works when your volume is part-time work, you want continuity that does not depend on one person, or you need technical knowledge that a single bookkeeper will not have across VAT, Corporate Tax and IFRS.
The hybrid works for most UAE SMEs. Someone internal handles daily invoicing and payments. A firm handles the ledger, reconciliations, VAT and reporting.
Your bookkeeper leaves and takes the knowledge with them. How the books were set up, why certain balances look the way they do, and the passwords.
You find out what was never documented in the middle of an audit.
You stop looking at your own numbers. Reports arrive, get filed, and nobody reads them until year end.
The mitigation is a monthly conversation where someone walks you through the numbers. If a provider does not offer that, they are doing data entry.
An accountant cannot audit their own bookkeeping.
If one firm keeps your books and signs your audit report, the opinion is compromised. Use different firms, or at minimum insist on different teams with different reporting lines.
Three things, all measurable.
A higher audit fee, because audit fees track mess.
Time spent reconstructing rather than recording.
Tax positions taken by default rather than chosen, including elections that cannot be claimed after the return is filed.
The third is the expensive one and it is invisible until it has happened.
We do outsourced bookkeeping and accounts across QuickBooks Online, Zoho Books and Odoo. Send your trial balance and we will tell you what shape of help you need, which is sometimes less than you expected.
